Fill the Well: Redefining Selfishness
VIRTUAL WRITING WORKSHOP FOR WOMEN
Fill the Well: Redefining Selfishness is a [VIRTUAL] writing workshop designed to help women embrace selfishness as an act of liberation and self-preservation. Together we will learn the origins of the word selfish and provide a positive reframing that centers on what selfishness really can represent: an opportunity to honor ourselves.
From a young age, we are taught that self-abandonment is an act of love and care. However, we all know that when our personal wells are empty, we cannot stand in intentional community with those around us. Alex Elle is excited to welcome co-faciliator Christine Platt, also known as the Afrominimalist, to share exclusive insight from her forthcoming book, Less Is Liberation: Finding Freedom From a Life of Overwhelm. Together, they will guide participants on a journey to reclaiming their divine birthright to be selfish. Through guided writing prompts and engaging group discussions, we’ll explore what drains us, what fills us, and what sustains us.
As part of the Less Is Liberation framework, Christine will delve into dismantling the shame women often feel regarding selfishness and instead, offer insight on understanding selfishness as a liberatory tool for personal freedom. She will also guide participants through writing prompts designed to help them honor their longing to be free from lives of having and doing the most. Participants will leave feeling empowered, knowing that being selfish is less about decentering others and more about centering ourselves—selfishness is how we can be of and in service as our best selves.
